Galway Community Circus receives Arts Council Open Call funding for 2022, celebrates 20th anniversary
We are delighted to kick off our 20th anniversary year as a proud recipient of the Arts Council Open Call funding for 2022, receiving €171,150 for our LifeLine project. LifeLine will take place on 16th July 2022 and will feature a cast of 150 people from all walks of life that will perform Europe’s largest highwire spectacle over the River Corrib and Claddagh Basin in the heart of Galway City.
LifeLine will draw on the transformative power of circus arts to deliver wellbeing impact and provoke discourse on mental health across the island of Ireland. People of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities will learn the dynamic art of highwire walking before joining artists and participants from across Europe to perform a stunning display of hope, strength and resilience over one of Ireland’s most iconic waterways. LifeLine includes a national participation programme that will give an opportunity for members of the public in Galway, Cork, Dublin and Tipperary to get involved in the project. More details on this project coming soon!
Galway Community Circus’s 20th anniversary year brings many opportunities for artists, young people and their families from all communities to get involved while learning and experiencing new things. Other key events include the annual Mayhem Youth Circus Festival on 16-22 May, which will feature workshops and performances for all ages, and the All-island Circus Arts Education Conference on 18-19 November at the O’Donoghue Centre, NUI Galway featuring workshops, talks and performances for researchers, students and arts professionals and the launch of a new partnership between NUI Galway and Galway Community Circus.
Young people aged 5-25 can join the annual youth circus programme, which runs through June and reconvenes in September this year, and offers opportunities to learn new skills in a non-competitive environment, make new friends, perform and participate in youth exchanges in Ireland and abroad. Adult, family and toddler classes are also offered throughout the year.
Galway Community Circus is proudly funded by The Arts Council, Galway City and County Councils, Erasmus+ and Creative Europe.
