Who can take part?
There is still time for even complete beginners to train to be part of the crossing in 2020. In order to take part you will need to have carried out enough training to be able to comfortably cross the highline at 4m, with our tutors making the final decision on whether someone is ready to take part. We will do everything we can to get you there!
Where to train?
You can train to take part in the crossing by coming to our regular workshops at the Irish Centre for Funambulism.
How much training do I need to have done to be able to take part in the crossing in Galway 2020?
Everybody’s experience with funambulism is different so we all progress at different rates. With enough time and the right support anyone can learn funambulism, but the time it will take to reach the level required to take part in the crossing will vary from person to person. For a beginner that picks up the technique very naturally, 5 days of training may be enough. For some people it can take longer. The point to remember is that you need to reach a level where you can comfortably cross the 4m highwire, and our tutors feel that you are ready to take part. The crossing will happen in August 2020 as part of a 4 day circus festival in Galway city 6-9 August, with the river crossing taking place August 8-9.
