Galway Community Circus is looking for a Development Coordinator to join our team!

Galway Community Circus seeks to appoint a Development Coordinator to support the development and implementation of our fundraising strategy, increase income generation and diversify funding streams to help us deliver upon our artistic ambitions across an exciting portfolio of programmes and partnerships.

Following our strategic plan for 2023-2027, we aim to grow our earned income in order to have a balance of core funding, project funding and earned income.

This exciting new full-time role has been created as part of the Fundraising Fellowship Ireland programme by Business to Arts in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. The successful candidate will participate in workshops, trainings and mentoring sessions and join a peer network of fundraising professionals, supported by Business to Arts. The Fellowship aims to provide training and professional development to enhance long-term careers in fundraising and development for the Irish cultural sector.

About Galway Community Circus

Galway Community Circus is Ireland’s flagship for youth and social circus, located in the heart of Galway City. Our mission is to foster the growth of youth circus in Ireland and internationally through our dynamic circus school. Our vision is a future in which play, care and creativity are nurtured through circus education accessible to every child in Ireland. We provide access to high-quality subsidised circus arts education through our circus school offering youth and adult programmes for over 500 weekly students as well as professional training and community programmes in partnership with those who have specific social or developmental needs. We provide artist supports, training and mentoring and lead the development of youth circus in Ireland through our academic, national and international partnerships.

Galway Community Circus is an Arts Council of Ireland strategically funded organisation, recipient of Rethink Ireland’s Step-Up Social Enterprise Development award (2023-2025), winner of Galway Chamber Culture and Creativity Business Award and an awardee of Erasmus+ Youth Accreditation and European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. Funded by the Arts Council’s Young People, Children and Education Residency Scheme, we are ‘Artists in Residence’ at the University of Galway from 2023-2024.

Galway Community Circus is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. We have a brilliant and very international team of nine employees and a wider team of twenty including a core freelance team, one Community Employment scheme participant and four full-time European volunteers.

Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Director, the key duties of this role are:

  • Support the development and implementation of Galway Community Circus’s fundraising strategy
  • Increase income generation and diversify funding streams to support Galway Community Circus’s artistic ambitions across an exciting portfolio of programmes and partnerships
  • Manage and grow our recently established Friends’ Scheme, and increase income through securing new Friends and identifying leads
  • Research, develop and nurture relevant corporate prospects for support, partnerships and meaningful sponsorship, delivering high quality proposals and sponsorship offerings
  • Research and identify funding opportunities with trusts and foundations, and develop relationships in this area
  • Support the Executive Director in the preparation of annual and project funding, grant applications and proposals, including research, data collection and reports, with support from the team
  • Achieve the agreed annual fundraising target generated through fundraising activities
  • Efficiently manage the administrative functions associated with the role including detailed and on time reporting (monthly Board/committee report); servicing of relationships, pitch documents and applications
  • Work closely with the Communications Coordinator on fundraising campaigns, donor communications and in the creation of fundraising and sponsorship materials (packages, impact reports, etc.)
  • Support the Executive Director with relationship-building with a potential new core statutory funder

Ideal Candidate Profile:

Essential:

  • The ideal candidate will be a graduate with some experience in fundraising, business development, marketing or sales
  • Familiarity with sourcing funding opportunities and submitting applications
  • Experience with sponsorships/corporate relationships
  • A strong knowledge of, and interest in, the arts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Honest, responsible and committed to best practice
  • A proven relationship builder and networker
  • The ability to work with a tight-knit and collaborative team
  • Self-starter with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects at the one time
  • Passion and commitment to Galway Community Circus’s vision, values and programmes

Terms of Employment

Salary: €30,000 - €35,000 per annum based on experience

Hours:
Full-time role 40 hours (5 days) per week, including a daily paid 0.5-hour lunch break. Hours will vary during busy periods, with occasional weekend and evening work. Holidays: 4 weeks + public holidays + additional hours/days as per organisation’s TOIL Policy

Location:
Based at Galway Community Circus, St. Joseph's Community Centre, Ashe Road, Shantalla, Galway, Ireland, H91 A4VW (wheelchair accessible)

This position is open to hybrid working (pending agreement and team requirements) including flexible working hours, remote work options and access supports. A fully remote working option is not available for this post.

Contract:
Two-year contract pending probation period of 6 months, with a 3-month review, with possibility of contract being extended.
